New Appraisers

What is Destination Imagination?

Destination Imagination (DI) is a non-profit, volunteer-led, cause-driven organization. Our purpose is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. Annually, we offer seven new standards-based Challenges in STEM, Improv, Visual Arts, Service Learning, and Early Learning. Each Challenge is open-ended and enables student teams to learn and experience the creative process from imagination to innovation.

Destination Imagination

  • Fosters Creative Problem-solving
  • Teaches Teamwork
  • Rewards Divergent Thinking
  • Employs Time Management
  • Promotes Risk Taking
  • Encourages Experimentation
What is an Appraiser?

Appraisers experience the excitement and creativity of DI up close and personal. Their job is to award teams every point they are entitled to by their solution presentation. Appraisers may be serve as time keepers, announcers, score technical elements, score theatrical elements.  or help with calculating scores.  Our Challenge Masters train appraisers in what they will be doing at the tournament.

Qualities of an Appraiser

  • Has a good sense of humor.
  • Appreciates creativity and innovation in all its forms.
  • Enjoys working with children and young adults.
  • Is comfortable working as a part of a team.
  • Is committed to being fair and impartial.
  • Has a positive and friendly attitude.

Appraisers are required to attend a 1/2 training and work the entire tournament day (check the calendar for specific dates and locations).  Appraisal teams must be the same throughout the day so Appraisers are NOT able to go and watch another team perform.  Parents of team members should NOT serve as appraisers because they will NOT be able to watch their childs team present their solution.

If this is your first time working as an appraiser you need to create an Appraiser Account on the Texas DI website.  This gives us the basic contact and background information

Click the link below to be taken to the Texas DI website and to register.  Unfortunately, because of the large number of spammers that attempt to create accounts on the Texas DI website we have had to implement a validation process.  Once you complete the basic information on the form click the [Create new account] button.  You will be directed to a page explaining that you will receive an email with a link that you must click to validate your account.

Just a note about district professional training hours...You must attend the half day training and the tournament to receive credit. If you miss the training or the tournament, you will not receive training hours.

Click the link in the email and your email address will be validated and you will be directed to a page with a link to register to work at the Mid-Cities tournament.  Click the link and fill in the additional requested information.

If you are representing a team, school or school district, please indicate this in the section of the form labeled:
Click here to add Information about Team you are representing

You can also indicate your appraisal assignment preferences.

Make sure you click the [Save] button at the bottom of the form.
